COMMISSION MINUTES, FEBRUARY 26, 2007        

 

The Board of Washington County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, February 26, 2007, in the commission room at the Washington County Courthouse.  Present: Alison Mueller, 1st District Commissioner, Chairman; Marcia Funke, 2nd District Commissioner; Gene Helms, 3rd District Commissioner; Jason Brinegar County Attorney; and Kathy Fritz, Deputy County Clerk.

 

Chairman Mueller called the meeting to order.

 

Next regular meeting will be Monday, March 5, 2007.  The board will meet at 8:30 A.M. to canvass the Washington City Primary Election.

 

Francine Regan, County Appraiser met with the board to obtain permission to purchase a printer.  Permission was given later in the day.

 

Don Richardson, Custodian met with the board.  Don reported on a road in Strawberry Township and the lights at the airport that the board later discussed with David Willbrant, Public Works Administrator.  Don asked the board about a new lawn mower.

 

All of the board members will attend the Solid Waste Meeting at 6:00 P.M. at the courthouse on the 26th.

Some of the board members are planning on attending the annual Storm Spotters Meeting on Tuesday, February 27th at 6:00 P.M. at the FNB Meeting Room.

 

Gloria Moore, Tourism Director met with the board.  Gloria will be gone on Monday, March 5th as she will be attending a meeting in Wilson.

 

The board approved bills and payroll totaling $191,970.48.

 

Kathy Ouellette left a message for the board to ask their input on ideas for the Thrivent sponsored Join Hands Day on May 5th to involve adults and youth in working together to benefit community needs.

 

Gene Helms moved to appoint Lenis Weaver as Barnes Township Trustee upon the recommendation of the Barnes Township Board.  Marcia Funke seconded and motion carried.

 

The board examined the annual township report for Franklin Township.

 

Duane Bruna, Noxious Weed and Solid Waste Director met with the board.  The Washington County Solid Waste Meeting on Monday, February 26th at 6:00 P.M. in the commissioner’s room was discussed.

 

Bill Overbeck, Sheriff and Sheila Ouellette, Communications Director met with the board to discuss the new jail project whose construction began today.  Chairman Mueller signed a payroll change notice for Ranai Meier to return to duty at ¾ time effective March 4th. 

 

Leo & Mardell Voelker, Linn and David & Lisa Voelker, Linn met with the board to discuss the difference between services provided by Twin Valley and Progressive.

 

The commission adjourned at noon and reconvened at 1:00 P.M.

 

David Willbrant, Public Works Administrator, gave his weekly work report.  The board approved the fuel bid from last week where Leiszler Oil was the low bid of $15,832.50 for 4500 gallons of #2 clear and 3000 gallons of unleaded.  Bridge design and inspection proposals were discussed.  Gene Helms moved to go into executive session with David and Jason Brinegar for 10 minutes at 1:30 P.M. to discuss personnel issues.  Marcia Funke seconded and motion carried.  The board returned to regular session at 1:40 P.M.  No action was taken.

 

There being no further business the board adjourned at 2:00 P.M.
