COMMISSION MINUTES, AUGUST 27, 2007
The Board of Washington
County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, August 27, 2007, in the
commission room at the Washington County Courthouse. Present: Alison Mueller,
1st District Commissioner; Marcia Funke, 2nd District
Commissioner; Gene Helms, 3rd District Commissioner, Jason Brinegar,
County Attorney and Lou Kern, County Clerk.
Chairman Mueller called the
meeting to order.
County offices will be closed
on Monday, September 3, 2007, in observance of Labor Day. There will be no commission meeting that
week. Next regular meeting will be
Monday, September 10, 2007 at 8:00 A.M.
The board approved bills and
payroll totaling $232,532.18.
Don Richardson, custodian,
reported on routine maintenance matters.
Replacement of benches on the courthouse lawn was discussed. Jan and
Jerry Alldredge will replace the memorial bench honoring Wilbur Westing. The Richardson family will donate one bench
for Don and Elvera Richardson. One more
bench is needed. The existing benches
will be placed for sale under sealed bid.
Marcia Funke moved to amend
the August 13, 2007 minutes to read that the commission was in executive
session with Christy L’Ecuyer for non-elected personnel issues not personal
issues. Alison Mueller seconded and
motion carried.
Duane Bruna, Noxious Weed and
Solid Waste Director, presented certified copy of confirmed report of 2008
special solid waste assessment of businesses.
Changes to various business assessments were reviewed and discussed. Gene Helms moved to make changes as
discussed. Alison Mueller seconded and motion carried.
Gene Helms moved to accept
the certified copy of confirmed report of 2008 special solid waste assessment
of businesses. Alison Mueller seconded
and motion carried. Duane updated the
board on routine maintenance matters.
Marcia Funke moved to appoint
Jim Kier to the unexpired term of Joyce McBeath on the Washington County
Hospital Board. Gene Helms seconded and
motion carried. The term will expire December
2007. The commission expresses thanks
to Joyce McBeath for her service to the hospital.
David Willbrant, Public Works
Administrator, gave weekly work report and budget report for July. Bridge grant progress was discussed. Chris Adelman, Husker Steel, presented
prices for steel at company cost. Permission
was given for David to purchase 10 gauge steel for $4,093.95.
