COMMISSION MINUTES, SEPTEMBER 17, 2007
The Board of Washington
County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, September 17, 2007, in
the commission room at the Washington County Courthouse. Present:
Alison Mueller, 1st District Commissioner; Gene Helms, 3rd
District Commissioner, Jason Brinegar, County Attorney and Lou Kern, County
Clerk. Absent: Marcia Funke, 2nd District
Commissioner.
Chairman Mueller called the
meeting to order.
Next regular meeting will be
Monday, September 24, 2007 at 8:00 A.M.
November 5, 2007, is County
Government Day.
Alison Mueller reported on
attendance at the Washington County American Legion Council meeting on
September 16.
David Willbrant, Public Works
Administrator, reported that public works department will be chip sealing
today. David gave weekly work
report. Chairman Mueller signed payroll
change notice for Sandra Nutsch due to resignation effective September 18,
2007.
Kathryn Carter, grant writer
for the 12th Judicial District, spoke with the board regarding the
SB 14 Risk Reduction Initiative Grant proposal. The commission signed a letter of support for the grant proposal.
The board spoke with Dan
Thalmann, Washington County News editor, regarding his recent editorial on the
airport. The commission said that
monies are grant funding dollars and they did not feel that they should pass up
the opportunity to bring that money back into this county rather than have it
go elsewhere. The weather station that
is being proposed is KDOT grant money and without the grant money the project
may not go forward.
Duane Bruna, Noxious Weed and
Solid Waste Director, presented a resolution to abate a solid waste assessment
fee. Alison Mueller moved to adopt
Resolution No. 17-07 abating a solid waste assessment fee due to the housing
being torn down. Gene Helms seconded
and motion carried.
Jason Brinegar, County
Attorney, visited with the board about various matters.
Gloria Moore, Tourism
Director, updated the board on meetings attended. Gloria Moore, Tourism Director, will host incoming tours on
September 18 and October 11.
Gary May, Rural Lakes Region
Sanitarian, updated the board on pending permits and compliance issues.
