COMMISSION MINUTES, OCTOBER 1, 2007         

 

The Board of Washington County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, October 1, 2007, in the commission room at the Washington County Courthouse.  Present:  Alison Mueller, 1st District Commissioner; Marcia Funke, 2nd District Commissioner; Gene Helms, 3rd District Commissioner, and Lou Kern, County Clerk. 

Absent:  Jason Brinegar, County Attorney.

 

Chairman Mueller called the meeting to order.

 

Next regular meeting will be Monday, October 8, 2007 at 8:00 A.M.

 

Roine Tegethoff, County Treasurer, presented payroll change notice for Jennifer Willbrant due to resignation as part time help on October 1, 2007 that was signed by Chairman Mueller. Roine also presented a payroll change notice for Christy Metz that the board will take under consideration.

 

The board received notice that the Blue Cross and Blue Shield rates will increase 8.5 percent for 2008.

 

Glenda Keller, FACS agent and Ross Mosteller, Ag Agent, River Valley Extension District #4, updated the board on the successes that the district has had in the past year.  The week of October 8 is National 4-H week.  The 4-H Achievement banquet is in November.

 

Duane Bruna, Noxious Weed and Solid Waste Director, discussed vandalism at the recycling center.  Duane discussed using the garage at the transfer station as a workshop area next year.  The board approved the purchase of a closed trailer for $2600.00 from K-4 Trailer Sales, Salina.  The trailer will be placed in one of the cities in the county as a recycling collection site.  Duane will assist with the State FFA land judging contest in Hanover on Thursday.

 

Deb Swoboda, Emergency Management Director, was given permission to attend a workshop on GIS in Emmettsburg, Maryland.  The State will pay the expense of the training.  Deb will write a grant for money to help upate the Emergency Management Plan.  Marcia Funke moved to proclaim October as National Fire Safety Month.  Gene Helms seconded and motion carried.

 

Sheriff Bill Overbeck returned a check for a vehicle that was purchased in Texas as the information given for the vehicle was incorrect and he refused to accept the vehicle.

 

David Willbrant, Public Works Administrator, gave weekly work report and bridge grant update.  Airport maintenance matters were discussed.  The Kansas Air Tour is scheduled for April 2-7, 2008.  David reported that Reed Equipment has a 1996 lowboy for sale.  Marcia Funke expressed concern over the condition of B Street in Washington City.

 

Steve Cohorst, Cohorst and Associates, asked if his firm could assist the county in any way.
