COMMISSION MINUTES, NOVEMBER 19, 2007
The Board of Washington
County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, November 19, 2007, in
the commission room at the Washington County Courthouse. Present:
Alison Mueller, 1st District Commissioner; Marcia Funke, 2nd
District Commissioner; Gene Helms, 3rd District Commissioner, and
Lou Kern,
Chairman Mueller called the
meeting to order.
Next regular meeting will be Monday,
November 26, 2007 at 8:00 A.M.
Alison Mueller moved and
Marcia Funke seconded to proclaim November 19 “Public Health Thank You Day” in
recognition of the dedicated service that health professionals give to
The board approved and signed
change order no. 2007-11.
Washington County Historical
Society volunteers Arlene Dague; Frances Wienck; Bob and Jane Ross; Duane Durst; Dale and Arlene Hiesterman and Jack Barley met with the commission to
discuss cash shortfalls. A grant will be
sought for preservation of artifacts.
The commission agreed to pay for roof repair on the north museum
building for $5250.00 and to increase the 2008 budget amount to $15,000.00 from
the $10,000.00 previously budgeted. The
commission will also pass a resolution to vote on a levy of 3/10ths of mill to
museum maintenance to be placed on the August ballot.
Duane Bruna, Noxious Weed and
Solid Waste Director, reported on maintenance matters.
Gloria Moore, Tourism
Director, reported on October events and meetings attended. Linda Craighead, Director of
Undersheriff Traci Hattesohl and Jeff Green, CBM Foods, discussed
the cost for jail food services. CMB
Foods will hire the cooks locally to prepare the food at the jail complex. The board gave permission for Sheriff
Overbeck to sign the contract with CBM Foods after reviewed by the county
attorney.
Chairman Mueller signed
payroll change notices for Paul D. McAvoy III; Denise
J. Caraway; Debra S. Hill; Iola J. Wolfe; James M. Baustert;
Dustin M. Bonar; Rachel E. Trumble, and Ivan R.
Berger as jailers effective November 26, 2007.
The board adjourned at 12:35
P.M. for lunch and reconvened at 1:15 P.M.
David Willbrant, Public Works
Administrator, gave weekly work report and monthly budget report. Bridge grant projects will conclude
soon. David showed information on an
airport sculpture from Dr. Richard Bergen of
Christy L’Ecuyer, Business
Coordinator, gave monthly report. The
airport grant award will be given after Christmas. The Smart Start program was discussed. The Republic County Development Director
would like to develop a four county effort to promote locally produced
products. The drawing contest for a
veterans’ memorial at the airport was discussed. It will be open to all past and present
county residents. The deadline for
submission is March 15, 2008 and should be sent to the
Gene Helms moved to adopt the
Washington County Salary Guidelines policy to be effective January 1,
2008. Marcia Funke seconded and motion
carried.
