COMMISSION MINUTES, DECEMBER 3, 2007         

 

The Board of Washington County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, December 3, 2007, in the commission room at the Washington County Courthouse.  Present:  Alison Mueller, 1st District Commissioner; Marcia Funke, 2nd District Commissioner; Gene Helms, 3rd District Commissioner, Jason Brinegar, County Attorney and Lou Kern, County Clerk.

 

Chairman Mueller called the meeting to order.

 

Next regular meeting will be Monday, December 10, 2007 at 8:00 A.M. 

 

The board approved bills and payroll totaling $126,189.22.

 

The board approved and signed change order nos. 2007-14 through 2007-17 and 2007-20 through 2007-24.

 

Marcia Funke moved and Gene Helms seconded to adopt Resolution No. 18-07 waiving the generally accepted accounting principles for the 2007 audit.  Motion carried.

 

Gloria Moore, Tourism Director, gave November report.  Gloria will serve as President of the North Central Kansas Tourism Council for 2008.  Gloria and Linda Craghead, Executive Director of the Flint Hills Tourism Coalition toured Washington County on November 26.  Stops and drive bys were made in Washington, Hanover, Barnes, Greenleaf, Linn, Palmer, Clifton and Vining as well as the southeast part of the county that is in the Flint Hills geological area.  Duane Durst gave a tour of the Pony Express Visitors’ Center and Casey Amrein gave a tour of LCL Buffalo Ranch.  Ms. Craighead will tour the rest of Washington County on a return trip.  Milford Lake/Junction City Visitors and Convention Bureau will host an international fishing competition in the fall of 2008.  The Flint Hills Tourism Coalition will have day trips available during that time and will set up promotional booths.

 

Marcia Funke reported on attendance at the North Central Kansas Regional Planning Commission meeting last week.  John Cyr has announced his retirement as Executive Director.  Doug McKinney will be the next Executive Director and Debra Ohlde will be the Assistant Director.

 

Gene Helms spoke of the three day training with the Department of Corrections.

 

Duane Bruna, Noxious Weed and Solid Waste Director, presented two requests for solid waste abatements that were tabled.  Duane also reported on routine matters.
