`COMMISSION MINUTES, FEBRUARY 19, 2008         

 

The Board of Washington County Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, February 19, 2008, in the commission room at the Washington County Courthouse.  Present:  Alison Mueller, 1st District Commissioner; Marcia Funke, 2nd District Commissioner; Gene Helms, 3rd District Commissioner, and Lou Kern, County Clerk.  Absent: Jason Brinegar, County Attorney.

 

Chairman Helms called the meeting to order with prayer.

 

Next regular meeting will be Monday, February 25, 2008 at 8:00 A.M. 

 

The board examined and confirmed annual report of Clifton Township.

 

The board approved and Chairman Helms signed payroll change notices for James Baustert; Ivan Berger; Dustin Bonar; Denise Caraway; Debra Hill; Paul McAvoy and Iola Wolfe for end of initial training period, effective February 17, 2008 and Rachel Trumble due to discharge effective February 15, 2008.

 

The board acknowledged the resignation of Steve Stigge as Washington Township Treasurer.  Marcia Funke moved to appoint Terri Gauby to fill the unexpired term as Washington Township Treasurer with thanks to Steve for his years of service.  Alison Mueller seconded and motion carried.

 

At 9:00 A.M. Chairman Helms opened two bids for the sale of an IBM computer.  Alison Mueller moved and Marcia Funke to accept the high bid of Diana Svanda for $25.00.  Motion carried.

 

Alison Mueller moved to purchase a custom oak desk, bookcase and file cabinet from A & S Woods at a cost of $3,831.00 for the business coordinator office.  Motion carried.

 

Gene Helms left the meeting at 9:30 A.M. to attend a funeral in Clay Center.

 

Debbie Swoboda, Emergency Management Coordinator, spoke with the board regarding mandatory name tags for all county employees. The equipment was purchased with Homeland Security funds.  The board will decide how to handle the cost of the supplies by March 3.

 

The commission spoke with Undersheriff Hattesohl regarding jail issues.  The board then called Dan Rowe, Treanor Architects, to inquire as how the issues were being handled.  Dan Rowe returned the call and reported that the security electronics issues are to be addressed on Tuesday, February 26, and that the tinting on the windows will be handled as quickly as possible by AHRS Construction/Jerry Stallbaumer.  No time has been set for the next PBC meeting.

 

David Willbrant, Public Works Administrator, gave weekly work report.  Alison Mueller moved to approve the purchase of fuel from Farmway for $21,167.50.  Marcia Funke seconded and motion carried.  David is working on assessing the FEMA ice storm damage.  David is to check to see if Debbie Swoboda, Emergency Management Coordinator, can purchase a GPS system with Homeland Security monies and if not, permission was given to purchase.  David will travel with Chris Adelman from Husker Steel tomorrow to view several bridges and obtain a cost estimate.  The Claycamp Construction auction is set for March 5 in Holton.  David may bid on an excavator at that time.
