COMMISSION MINUTES, JUNE 9, 2008
The Board of Washington
County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, June 9, 2008, in the
commission room at the Washington County Courthouse. Present: Alison Mueller,
1st District Commissioner; Marcia Funke, 2nd District
Commissioner; Gene Helms, 3rd District Commissioner; and Lou Kern, County
Clerk. Absent: Jason Brinegar, County Attorney.
Chairman Helms called the
meeting to order with prayer.
Next regular meeting will be Monday,
June 16, 2008 at 8:30 A.M.
The board viewed the
landscape planting done by Boy Scout Troop 86 to assist Steven Colgrove with
his Eagle Scout project. The commission
thanks the troop for all the hard work done.
Duane Bruna, Noxious Weed and
Solid Waste Director, reported on routine maintenance and that he will be
spraying noxious weeds on county properties this week. Marcia Funke moved to
adopt Resolution No. 06-08 abating a solid waste assessment fee. Alison Mueller seconded and motion
carried. Permission was given for Duane
to purchase a commercial weed trimmer.
At 9:00 A.M. Chairman Helms
opened the floor for public comments on the five year bridge plan. Attending were Sharon Pierce, Public Works
Secretary and Mike Schuessler, Public Works Administrative Assistant. No other appearances were noted. After review and discussion Alison Mueller
moved and Marcia Funke seconded to adopt the five year bridge plan. Motion carried. Sharon gave work report and reported on FEMA reimbursements in
the amounts of $23,044.00 and $49,011.00.
David Willbrant spoke with the board via telephone.
The Riley County Commission
called to discuss a mutual bridge project on the Riley/Washington county
lines. The Riley County Public Works
Administrator is to meet with David Willbrant, Public Works Administrator, and
make a recommendation for consideration at a later date.
Robbin Cole, Executive
Director, and Anita Bott, Washington County representative board member, Pawnee
Mental Health Services, Inc., spoke with the commission regarding the 2009
budget request.
Gary May, Rural Lakes Region
Sanitarian, met with the board.
Gloria Moore, Tourism
Director, updated the board on her activities during May as well as upcoming
events.
Debbie Swoboda, Emergency
Management Coordinator, reported on storm damage in the county on
Thursday. Washington County will apply
for an emergency management performance grant in the amount of $7500.00.
There being no further
business the board adjourned at noon.
