COMMISSION MINUTES, OCTOBER 6, 2008        

 

The Board of Washington County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, October 6, 2008, in the commission room at the Washington County Courthouse.  Present:  Alison Mueller, 1st District Commissioner; Marcia Funke, 2nd District Commissioner; Gene Helms, 3rd District Commissioner, and Lou Kern, County Clerk.  Absent:  Jason Brinegar, County Attorney.

 

Chairman Helms called the meeting to order with prayer.

 

Next regular meeting will be Monday, October 13, 2008 at 8:30 A.M.

 

The board approved bills and payroll totaling $243,686.43.

 

Duane Bruna, Noxious Weed and Solid Waste Director, discussed illegal dumpsites in the county.  The board and Duane traveled to view the dumpsites and will seek assistance from KDHE with the clean up costs.

 

David Willbrant, Public Works Administrator, presented revised airport improvement plan.  David gave weekly work report.  Alison Mueller moved to sign and approved a LPA agreement for bridge project no. 4376.  Marcia Funke seconded and motion carried.  Low water crossing in Washington Township was discussed and the board expects to have an answer next week.

 

Lou Kern, County Clerk, reported that the Blue Cross/Blue Shield rates for 2009 will decrease by 2.1 percent.

 

The board spoke with Phil Olson, Palmer, regarding a lease of a tower.

 

The board decided that it would be a cost savings to the county to grant December 25 and 26 as the Christmas holiday vacation for 2008 rather than December 24 and 25.

 

The board viewed the Emergency Management Office and spoke with Debbie Swoboda.  Alison Mueller moved to sign the Kansas Emergency Management 2009 Cooperative Agreement Program submission.   Marcia Funke seconded and motion carried.  The board then toured the jail facility and visited with Undersheriff Traci Hattesohl. 

 

At 11:15 A.M. the board traveled with Duane Bruna to view illegal dumpsites, ate lunch and then adjourned.
