COMMISSION MINUTES, OCTOBER 20, 2008        

 

The Board of Washington County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, October 20, 2008, in the commission room at the Washington County Courthouse.  Present:  Alison Mueller, 1st District Commissioner; Marcia Funke, 2nd District Commissioner; Gene Helms, 3rd District Commissioner, Jason Brinegar, County Attorney and Lou Kern, County Clerk.

 

Chairman Helms called the meeting to order with prayer.

 

Next regular meeting will be Monday, October 27, 2008 at 8:30 A.M.

 

The board approved bills and payroll totaling $243,629.06.

 

Charles Turk, American Legion County Commander, extended invitations to the board and all elected and county officials to the 47th annual Sunflower County Government Day on November 17 in the District Courtroom, Washington County Courthouse.

 

Ann Hawk, County Treasurer, introduced Denise Tice as the new employee in her office.  Chairman Helms signed payroll change notice effective October 20, 2008.  Ann presented Treasurer’s year end accounting to the board as of October 1, 2008 and discussed status of the county monies held in certificates of deposit.

 

David Willbrant, Public Works Administrator, gave weekly work report.  David gave a progress report on bridge project 4094 northeast of Morrowville. Bridge project 4376 west of Haddam will begin this winter.  Surplus items for sale by the public works departments were discussed.  Estimates for the cost of framing and insulating a bathroom area at the airport were discussed.  The estimates will be reviewed before any decision is made.

 

Janice Kearn, R.N., County Health Director, met with the Board of County Commissioners in the capacity as the County Health Advisory Board to review expenses and income for the Family Planning Program.  The board also reviewed materials to be given to persons who utilize the program.

 

At 11:00 A.M. the board met with various county department heads and Shirley Marrs, District Court Clerk, for the monthly department head meeting.  The board asked that any department with surplus property for sale to turn that information in to Lou Kern, County Clerk.  Christy L’Ecuyer asked that department heads check the county website to make sure that the information there is current.  She also asked about posting a county job application on the county website as well as job openings. 

 

Gary May, Rural Lakes Region Sanitarian, discussed pending permits with the board.

 

The board spoke with Shirley Marrs, District Court Clerk.

 

The board spoke with Jason Brinegar, County Attorney, on various issues.

 

There being no further business, the commission adjourned at noon.
