COMMISSION MINUTES, MAY 3, 2010
The Board of Washington County Commissioners met in regular
session on Monday, May 3, 2010 in the commission room at the Washington County
Courthouse. Present: Alison Mueller, 1st District
Commissioner, Roger Otott, 2nd District Commissioner; Gene Helms, 3rd
District Commissioner, Chairman, Elizabeth Hiltgen,
Chairman Helms called the meeting to order with prayer.
The next regular meeting will be Monday, May 10, 2010 at 8:30 AM.
The board approved and paid bills and payroll totaling $405,612.76.
Sheila Ouellette, Communications Director, reported that KACOMM has requested to use the Palmer tower for telecommunications for a short period of time. The board approved the usage of the tower.
Ann Hawk,
The board approved and signed official minutes for March 22 through April 26, 2010.
Don Alldredge, custodian, reported on routine maintenance matters.
Gloria Moore, Tourism Director,
reported on attendance at the Kansas Sampler Festival in
Duane Bruna, Noxious Weed and
Solid Waste Director, reported on free days at the transfer station. Duane and Justin Hill will travel to
David Willbrant, Public Works
Administrator, gave weekly work report.
David purchased a dump truck on PurpleWave.com for $48,400.00 that the
board approved. Upon David’s
recommendation Alison Mueller moved and Roger Otott seconded to accept the low
bid of Classic Trailer Sales, Goddard, for the purchase of a belly dump for
$25,625.00. Motion carried. David will attend a preconstruction
conference on the
Sheriff Bill Dickson thanked David for rock that was hauled to the law enforcement center. Sheriff Dickson reported that six persons were interviewed for the jailer/dispatcher and deputy positions. Sheriff Dickson asked the commission to consider establishing a position for a jail administrator and pay adjustments for deputies. The board approved the purchase of a 2008 Crown Vic from the Kansas Highway Patrol for $13,750.00 to replace a vehicle previously wrecked.
The board recessed at 12:05 P.M. for lunch and reconvened at 1:00 P.M.
Joe Hurla, CEM, Business
Development Manager, for 360 Energy Solutions, Lawrence, told the board that
his company does energy audits for the State of
Elizabeth Hiltgen,
Christy L’Ecuyer, Business Coordinator, reported on various meetings attended and contacts made.
