COMMISSION MINUTES, JUNE 7, 2010          

 

The Board of Washington County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, June 7, 2010 in the commission room at the Washington County Courthouse.  Present:  Alison Mueller, 1st District Commissioner, Roger Otott, 2nd District Commissioner; Gene Helms, 3rd District Commissioner, Chairman, and Lou Kern, County Clerk.   Absent:  Elizabeth Hiltgen, County Attorney, due to maternity leave and Brian Carroll, Interim County Attorney, for a family funeral.

 

Chairman Helms called the meeting to order with prayer.

 

The commission will meet with Marshall County Commissioners and Kansas Department of Transportation representatives on Tuesday, June 8 at 2:00 P.M. at the Kloppenberg Center in Hanover.

 

The next regular meeting will be Monday, June 14, 2010 at 8:30 AM.

 

The board approved and Chairman Helms signed payroll change notice for Deputy Dustin Bonar effective June 1, 2010, due to completion of KLETC training.

 

Sheila Ouellette, Communications Director, introduced Steven WoermanBjork as the new dispatch/jailer effective today.

 

Commissioner Helms presented 2011 budget request for Juvenile Detention Facility, Junction City.

 

Gloria Moore, Tourism Director, updated the board on meetings she will be attending and incoming tours.

 

Mitch and Tiffany Merritt asked for a variance from the Washington County Sanitary Code due to the fact that the tract they are purchasing is less than 3 acres.  Alison Mueller moved and Roger Otott seconded to approve the variance request.  Motion carried.

 

Duane Bruna, Noxious Weed and Solid Waste Director, reported that his department will mow and spray the shooting range.  Duane will attend a meeting at Wilson Lake on June 10.

 

David Willbrant, Public Work Administrator, gave weekly work report and monthly budget report.  Chairman Helms signed a checklist of extraordinary circumstances for the airport as sent by KDOT, Department of Aviation.  Hanover Project #4573 is nearing completion.  Driveway issues from that project were discussed.  Structure 2-P.7 in Highland Township has been closed due to damage from heavy rains.  14-DD.3 in Little Blue Township was discussed as to whether a large culvert or a low water crossing should be installed.  Keystone Pipeline issues were discussed.

 

The board recessed at 12:10 P.M. and reconvened at 1:00 P.M.

 

Debbie Swoboda, Emergency Management Coordinator, presented 2011 budget request.

 

Christy L’Ecuyer, Business Coordinator, gave weekly report.
