COMMISSION MINUTES, JUNE 28, 2010          

 

The Board of Washington County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, June 28, 2010 in the commission room at the Washington County Courthouse.  Present:  Alison Mueller, 1st District Commissioner, Roger Otott, 2nd District Commissioner; Gene Helms, 3rd District Commissioner, Chairman, and Diana Svanda in the absence of  Lou Kern, County Clerk.   

 

Chairman Helms called the meeting to order with prayer.

 

Bills and payroll were paid totaling $331,972.85.

 

The next regular meeting will be Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at 8:30 AM.

County offices will be closed on Monday, July 5, 2010, for the July 4th holiday.

 

Duane Bruna, Noxious Weed and Solid Waste Director, discussed department matters.  Alison moved to give Duane permission to purchase a used trailer for $1500.00.  Roger seconded and motion carried.

 

Dick Powell, Kastl Powell was in to discuss the damage to the basement of the courthouse.

 

Janice Kearn, County Health Nurse turned in the 2011 budget request and also discussed the new County Health building.

 

Nola Dusin, Register of Deeds; Libby Hiltgen, County Attorney; and Shirley Marrs, District Court Clerk, presented their 2011 budget requests.

 

Don Alldredge, Janitor discussed department matters.

 

David Willbrant, Public Works Administrator, gave weekly work report.  Crews cleaned up debris from storm and repaired signs.  Roger received two complaints about holes in roads.  The board approved a transfer of 40 hours vacation from David Willbrant to David L’Ecuyer.  Eroding as a result of the storm on the Arbuthnot road was discussed.  It was decided to not make any equipment purchases at this time.  Vance Brothers oil contract ended, the price is down a few cents.  Roger moved to renew the oil contract with Vance Brothers for CRS-1H oil.  Alison seconded and motion carried.

 

The board recessed at 12:10 for lunch and reconvened at 1:00 P.M.

 

Gloria Moore, Tourism Director, reported on department matters

 

Christy L’Ecuyer, Business Coordinator, reported on department matters and was asked to write a grant for the airport.

 

Debbie Swoboda, Emergency Preparedness Director, reported of damage to county and township roads during the period of June 7 – June 24.  Alison moved to sign Resolution 05-10 declaring a State of Local Disaster Emergency for Washington County, Kansas.  Gene seconded and motion carried.

 

The meeting adjourned at 2:00 P.M.
